A vibrant and crowded scene from the Naadam Festival in Mongolia, showcasing a traditional wrestling match. Numerous wrestlers in their distinct short, open-chested tops (zodog) and briefs (shuudag) are gathered on a green field, some in various stages of their ceremonial 'eagle dance' or pre-match rituals. In the foreground, a line of individuals dressed in traditional long orange robes hold ceremonial blue and yellow flags. In the background, a large crowd of spectators is visible, along with more people in colorful traditional Mongolian attire, some holding flags, indicating a significant cultural celebration.
A Mongolian archer, dressed in a traditional blue deel with a yellow sash and a distinctive red and black hat, is in a crouching position, holding a traditional recurve bow and an arrow. Another person, also in a traditional blue deel and black boots, is standing next to him, possibly handing him more arrows or assisting. The ground is gravel, and in the background, additional arrows or equipment are visible, suggesting preparation or participation in a traditional archery event, likely at the Naadam Festival.
A Mongolian musician, dressed in an ornate blue and gold traditional deel with a red sash and a distinctive gold-crowned hat, is seated outdoors on a chair. He is playing a Morin Khuur, a traditional Mongolian horse-head fiddle, holding the bow in his right hand and the instrument with his left. His expression is focused. The background consists of a vast, flat, grassy landscape with distant mountains under a clear sky, typical of the Mongolian steppe.

Full Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

We’ll meet you at the airport and bring you straight to your hotel in the city. Today is all about getting settled after the journey.

Depending on your arrival time, you can either rest or go for a short walk around Ulaanbaatar’s center.

We'll brief you on the days ahead—what to expect, what to pack in your day bag, and go over any questions.

  • Accomodations: 3* Hotel or similar

Day 2: Tsagaan suwarga

Today we begin our desert road trip. It’s a long drive (about 450 km), but the landscape shifts dramatically as we leave the city behind.

Our destination is Tsagaan Suvarga, also called the "White Stupa." These massive cliffs have layers of red, orange, and white rock — carved over time by ancient seas and wind.

The area is completely open and quiet, with dramatic views over the steppe. It feels like you're standing on the edge of another planet.

We’ll spend the night nearby in a local ger camp —your first taste of traditional nomadic lodging.

  • Accomodations: Ger Camp

  • Meals Included: Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner

Day 3: Khongoryn els

After breakfast, we head further into the Gobi to Bayanzag, known as the Flaming Cliffs.

This is a legendary site in paleontology — dinosaur fossils were first discovered here in the 1920s.

You can explore the sandstone formations, see fossilized bones and eggs (still embedded in the ground), and walk the same paths as those early explorers.

At sunset, the cliffs glow deep orange —it’s a magical time to be there. Another night in a cozy ger under the stars.

Day 4: Khongoryn Els - The Singing Sand Dunes

 Day 5: Yoliin am

Day 6: Mandalgobi Naadam

Today we reach Khongoryn Els, home to the largest sand dunes in Mongolia. These giants stretch for more than 180 km and rise up to 300 meters.

You'll have time to walk, climb (if you're up for it!), and listen to the dunes “sing” — a low hum the wind makes as it passes over the sand.

We’ll also visit a local camel-herding family, and if you'd like, you can try camel riding through the dunes. This day brings silence, vastness, and unforgettable Gobi scenery.

  • Accomodations: Ger Camp

  • Meals Included: Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner

Now the cultural side of the adventure begins.

We arrive in Mandalgobi just in time for a local Naadam Festival, where you’ll experience the real spirit of Mongolia.

Naadam celebrates the "Three Manly Sports": horse racing, archery, and wrestling. You’ll be right among the locals, watching the competitions, eating festival snacks, and feeling the energy of this nomadic tradition.

It’s colorful, raw, and deeply connected to Mongolian identity.

  • Accomodations: Ger Camp

  • Meals Included: Breakfast –Lunch - Dinner

We drive into Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park and enter Yolyn Am, a narrow canyon tucked between high mountain walls.

It’s surprisingly cool here — even in summer, there can still be ice on the canyon floor. You’ll hike into the gorge, watch for wildlife like vultures and ibex, and enjoy the contrast between the harsh desert outside and this peaceful green canyon.

In the afternoon, we start making our way north.

  • Accomodations: Ger Camp

  • Meals Included: Breakfast – Lunch - Dinner

Day 7: Ulaanbaatar & Naadam Opening Ceremony

We return to Ulaanbaatar, and this time the big city Naadam begins. You’ll witness the official opening ceremony, a huge event with parades, traditional dance, and performances. This is Mongolia's biggest national celebration — thousands gather in the stadium, and the whole city is alive with excitement. You'll feel the pride and passion Mongolians have for their history and culture.

  • Accomodations: 3* Hotel or similar

  • Meals Included: Breakfast –Lunch - Dinner

Day 8: Ulaanbaatar

This day is flexible. You can dive deeper into the Naadam celebrations—see the archery competitions, try traditional foods, explore the Naadam markets, or even just relax and people-watch in the city.
